FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does it take to become a published author?

Typically, it will take 3-6 months to go through the process from start to finish.  This provides time for editing, author corrections, formatting, re-edits, cover design, marketing preparation, etc.

What are the royalties for both traditional and self-publishing?

Author royalties vary depending on whether a book is selected for traditional or self publishing.  Typically, authors receive a lower royalty payment with traditional publishing because the publisher assumes all risk and cost associated with publication.

Authors who self-publish typically keep a much larger royalty because he/she assumes the risk and cost associated with publication.

On average, traditionally published authors receive an average of 20-30% royalty, whereas self-published authors receive 70-90% of royalties, depending on a variety of factors and contractual negotiations.

Why do you not publish prophetic works through traditional publishing?

A lot of people believe they possess a prophetic gift, and while we appreciate and understand the gift, we cannot judge the truthfulness of each individual claiming to minister in the prophetic.  Therefore, we will not publish works that propose to be prophetic in nature.  However, those who meet general criteria for prophetic works may be considered for self-publishing options and assume all risk.

Will Watermark provide an editor or must I hire an independent editor for my work?

Watermark has contracted with a number of professional editors with extensive backgrounds, and will provide full editing services for traditional authors.  Self-published authors may include editing as an add-on option or hire their own editor prior to submission.

Do I have to design my own cover or create my own marketing material?

No.  Watermark provides these services for both traditional and self-published authors.  We use the best graphic designers and marketing options available, and work hard to provide a cover and marketing collateral that stands out among the competition.
